Season 2 Begins!

jumanji-welcome-to-the-jungleWelcome to our first episode of Shirz2Boise in 2018. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday/holidays break. We watched so many movies that we had a hard time pick 1-2 of them for this episode. We want to talk about Sweet Virginia starring  Jon Bernthal. Farzan finished Godless a Netflix miniseries, and finally Jumanji. Devon watched the Netflix original show Dark, and Netflix original “A Futile and Stupid Gesture”. We were busy watching movies, TV series and everything watchable!

Without further ado, here’s our first 2018 episode or as we would like to call it: Season2, Episode 1. You can continue reading my notes below:

200px-darknetflixposterDark’s principal photography started on October 18, 2016, in and around Berlin and ended in March 2017. It is the first German-language Netflix original series, and debuted on Netflix’s streaming service on December 1, 2017. A second season has already been green-lit by Netflix, with production to begin this year.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a standalone movie, and it is a great one and with that I have to disagree with screenrant.com that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle “is a partial continuation of the beloved 1995 Jumanji movie”-I disagree! Jumanji has overtaken Wonder Woman at the worldwide box office. Welcome to the Jungle‘s global box office gross is expected to rise to $822 million. According to Cinema Blend this movie has now outgrossed Spider-Man: Homecoming domestically. You heard it right, Jumanji has now made more money than one of the most popular superheroes ever here in the United States. Speaking of Dwayne, I am looking forward to seeing Rampage. It is based on the famous arcade game of the same name. It will interesting for sure. Guarantee it brings in the big bucks just like Jumanji, but we will see.

futileandstupidgestureposterNetflix original “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” is a film starring Will Forte, Martin Mull, Domnhall Gleeson, and a slew of other funny characters. The movie is a biopic about a comedy writer Doug Kenney who helped create National Lampoon, and it’s actually quite funny. The IMDB plot synopsis describes the film as “In the 1970s and ’80s, National Lampoon’s success and influence creates a new media empire overseen in part by the brilliant and troubled Doug Kenney.

Something to look out for is the brand new Netflix original series Altered Carbon starring Joel Kinnaman. Kinnaman who you might recognize from the crime thriller The Killing or of course House of Cards.  Altered Carbon as described by IMDB “Set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored, a prisoner returns to life in a new body and must solve a mind-bending murder to win his freedom.”

Sweet Virginia starting Jon Bernthal, Imogen Poots, Christopher Abbott, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Abrahamson. It is a R rated 2017 drama/Thriller movie. Got 6.2 on IMDb, 78% on Rotten Tomatoes-higher than Jumanji! And %75 of Google users liked it. Here’s the official Trailer:

81plqky-x1l-_ri_The film starts with a triple murder during a late-night card game in a remote Alaskan valley. The killer, “that we will come to know as Elwood (played by Christopher Abbott), has dark business with Lila (Imogen Poots), the young wife of one of the victims.” Elwood staying in “a motel owned by Sam (Jon Bernthal), a onetime rodeo star limping after toomany falls and trembling with the early signs of Parkinson’s disease. Sam a long-term affair with a married neighbor (Rosemarie DeWitt)” one of victims wife…now you really want to know what happened next, right? Fun fact about this movie is “The China Brothers original spec script for Sweet Virginia was high on the Black List in 2012 – an annual list of the best screenplays in Hollywood yet to be produced.” Also “Many of the locations used are filmed in Hope, Canada which is also the location for ‘First Blood’.”
